Matt Koehl was an American National Socialist activist and leader. He joined the American Nazi Party (ANP) in 1960 after earlier involvement in several segregationist and White nationalist organizations. Following George Lincoln Rockwell ‘s assassination in 1967, Koehl was selected by the party leadership to succeed him as Commander of the organization.
Although commonly called the “American Nazi Party,” the organization had officially been renamed the National Socialist White People’s Party (NSWPP) in January 1967, several months before Koehl assumed leadership. In 1983, Koehl reorganized and renamed the NSWPP as New Order. Under Koehl, it increasingly presented itself as a religious movement venerating Adolf Hitler as a spiritual figure rather than as a conventional political party This shift was influenced by the writings of Savitri Devi.
Koehl also held a leadership role in the World Union of National Socialists (WUNS), and took over the organization as well when Rockwell died.
